Welcome

The Hornsey and Wood Green Amnesty group was set up in 1978 and covers Hornsey, Wood Green, Crouch End, Highgate and Muswell Hill.  We currently have about 50 members.

There are 2.8 million members of Amnesty International working in 140 countries worldwide, and Amnesty remains at the forefront of the human rights movement globally – but it can only do its work through members, staff and local groups.

This Group is one of 260 in the UK.  Our main aims are to campaign and raise awareness about human rights issues by putting pressure on governments, companies and institutions about individuals at risk, and also to work on broader issues such as controlling arms, violence against women, the treatment of refugees and asylum seekers and against the death penalty.

We are delighted to welcome new members to our friendly, lively and active Group.  We have a substantial history of vigorous campaigning and successful fundraising to support the work of Amnesty International – and we benefit from having a range of members of different ages, backgrounds and interests.

You can help in a variety of ways to suit your time, skills and inclinations by:
•    coming to monthly meetings
•    writing letters, from home or at the meetings
•    helping with or attending occasional events (stalls, festivals, demos,  sales etc.)
•    helping with or attending fundraising activities (concerts, sponsored walk, street collection)
•    helping with publicity
•    making a donation

Our Diary of  Events lists our activities over the current year.
